  1. Why Nazario work for a drug dealer?

In the story "Bodega Dreams" by Enrique Quinoñez, it shows the way that Bodega uses Nazario as a lawyer to get tenement for his neighborhood. Nazario is the lawyer of Bodega who is interested in civil rights of his neighborhood. In the story Chino says, "Nazario with his clean-shaven face and the good looks of someone who never in his life has been in a street fight, went around spreading favors for Bodega." This benefited Bodega because as he has a lawyer who fights for his civil right he could help his community grow. Also it shows how Nazario never got into a street fight and spread around favors for Bodega.

  2. Why does Bodega's attitude change when he and chino start to talk about Vera?

In chapter 8, Bodega's attitude changes when he and Chino start to talk about Vera because of love. In the beginning, Sapo tells Chino that Bodega wants to talk to him. Once they get to the spot, they hear a meeting already taking place between Nazario and Bodega. After Chino meets Nazario, Bodega pulls Chino away to ask about his information on Vera. Chino says," His body quickly straightened up 'You spoke to her, Chino?' He was like a kid. He pulled up a chair and sat in front of me."(71). This quote shows how Bodega's attitude really changes. Since they were talking about Vera, his old flame, Bodega was quickly interested in what Chino had to say. Not because of hate or anger, but because of love since his attitude reminded Chino of a little kid, happy and full of life, just like a person in love would feel like. His body language in the moment and curiosity of Vera's whereabouts really showed that he still really loves and cares for her.

  3. What makes Bodega so sure that Vera will take him back?

In "Bodega Dreams" Bodega is sure that vera will come back and get togethrr with him again. Vera and Bodega were together befor Vera got married with the cuban. Both Bodega and Vera loved each other. But Vera told Bodega that she loved him but that there was a specific reason why theh couldn't be together. Bodega told Chino "She said she loved me. She said that she didn't care if i didn't have money. The problem was i didn't have any vision on how to get it." (79). This quote shows how what Vera told Bodega before getting married made him change. Bodega now wants to make the society better. He now has a vision on how to get his money which he knows will intrest Vera.

  4. Why do you think Nazario didn't want Chino to hear the conversation of his and Bodegas?

In "Bodega Dreams" Bodega and Nazario were having a conversation, and Nazario reacted negatively that Chino was there and could hear the whole conversation. I think that they were probably about to discuss about a type of crime that they were going to do, or they were going to discuss about something that Nazario thought Chino would not be able to handle. "I could hear Bodega and Nazario in the other room arguing and, sure enough, the name Albert Salazar kept coming up." This shows that Nazario and Bodega were obviously discussing things that may change Chino's mind about helping them or may make Chino suspicious for any events later on.

  5. Why is Bodega so kind to Chino?

In "Bodega Dreams" Bodega is very kind to Chino. This is very confusing because Bodega is a character that alot of people fear in the story. He isn't the friendly type either. Bodega is kind to Chino because of the fact that he is the only way he can get to Vera. Vera is Bodegas Teenage love who he still misses and really loves. He wants to get in contact with her because he truly believes that she will marry him. In the story Bodega tells Chino, "That i didn't mean what i said a few days back. That I'm some kind of weak fuck who!..." Then it says "I cut him off. 'Hey it's cool. Say no more. Look, Vera is coming to New York.' His body quickly straightened up. 'You spoke to her Chino?' He was like a kid. He pulled up a chair and sat in front of me." This story illustrates the interest that Bodega has in Chino. Since he thought Chino wasn't doing what he wanted him to do he was about to go off on him. As soon as Chino told him the news that Vera is coming to New York his mood lightened up and he started speaking very kind to him. Bodega only is associating with Chino so he can finally get the love of his life.

  6. Why is Nazzario portrayed the way he is?

In "Bodega Dreams" by Ernesto Quinonez, Willie Bodega, the neighborhood developer, has a lawyer at his side by the name of Edwin Nazzario. Nazzario is Bodega's right hand man who smooths out all the legalities of Bodega's empire. Lawyers are generally portrayed as sneaky and extremely ambitious. Nazzario is portrayed like a typical lawyer in some ways but not as much in others. The author writes, " I'd seen Nazzario's face a few times around the neighborhood. He was a tall, confident man in his forties who walked the streets wearing expensive suits and alligator shoes but was never mugged. Now I knew why. It was Nazzario who represented Bodega around the neighborhood. Nazzario, with his clean-shaven face and the good looks of someone who never in his life has been in a street fight, went around spreading favors for Bodega." Nazzario is an untouchable person in East Harlem thanks to Bodega, he has limited integrity because he is able to hide behind this power. He portrayed this way to show us how much true power Bodega has, most lawyers wouldn't be presented in such a fashion as Nazzario is.

  7. Why is Bodega so confident that vera would take him back?

In round 8 of "Bodega Dreams", Bodega is confident that Veronica a.k.a. Vera (Blancas aunt) would take him back. But, Vera is mariied to a rich guy in cuba. Williw still states many reason of why Vera would pick him over her husband. in the book he says, "she said she loved me. she said she didn't care if i didn't have any money." This shows that Vera said that her love is unconditional and that she will love willie for rick or for poor. Another peice of evidence is "Of course she'll leave that pendejo. she never wanted to marry him in the first place. it was her fucken mother who pushed her." This shows that Vera never wanted to marry her husband. she always wanted to marry Willie but that her parents pushed her to marrying the other guy. Willie Bodega states that Vera never loved her husband like she did with willie because it was never real love. Her parents pushed her into the marriage.

  8. Why is Vera concerned about Blanca being pregnant?

In "Bodega Dreams", Bodega and Vera are reunting ,Chino feels he's in the way of this reuion. He makes an announcement that he must pick up Blanca because she is pregnant. Vera seems very conserned about Blanca being pregnant. She seems shocked that her niece was actually pregent."Um, Nancy is at work and she's pregnant so I-'' "Pregnant! My niece is Pregnant! This shows the Vera is very suprised. I wonder why she so concered was she not expecting this to happen to her? She hears the news and decides to celebrate which I think is a bite questioning.
