Who killed Alberto Salazar?
ReplyDeleteI think that it was Sapo who killed Salazar. I think it was Sapo because since sapo is like the crazy, fighter of the whole Willie Bodega group or business. when Sapo was younger all he used to do was fight in any way that meant he would win. I think that Bodega sent Sapo to kill Salazar most likely because of drugs or drug money. Lastly, the main reason I think it was Sapo is because in the end of Round 9 while Chino sat down to eat his burger and drink his Malta he saw the news. “In addition to the gunshot wound, Salazar had suffered a serious bite to the shoulder. That’s when i knew who had killed him.”. In my opinion ,the only person crazy enough to bite someone right before they shoot and kill someone is Sapo.

DeleteWhy does Bodega want Veronica to come to East Harlem?
ReplyDeleteBodega is in love with Veronica and wants to marry her when she comes to East Harlem. Bodega has a long history with Veronica, when he was a teenager he was in love with Veronica during the Young Lords time. He wanted to marry her, but Veronica’s mother forced her to marry a rich Cuban man back then. Bodega couldn’t have the chance to marry Veronica because she left with the her Cuban husband, but Veronica doesn’t love her husband. For example, “Nah, I couldn't because she was getting married the next day and if her mother had woken up, you know, it would have been over...And she was a little scared, but it wasn’t because I was there, it was cuz she was marrying some guy she didn’t love.” This shows that Bodega desperately wants her to come, to marry her right away and also be related to Chino because Chino was married to Blanca, and Veronica is Blanca’s Aunt. But of course it’ll be a problem to get Veronica get married to Bodega because she’s married to the rich Cuba man. Chino is feeling suspicious at what Bodega is really going to do when Veronica comes to East Harlem.
The quote doesn't match your topic sentence to prove that Bodega wanted to marry Vera. It is more related to Vera's feelings. 8/10

ReplyDeleteWhat happened to Salazar?
ReplyDeleteSalazar has been killed and beaten very harshly around East River. Salazar was heard during Nazzaro and Bodega’s arguments, Chino was curious who he was, Sapo is guessing that he’s a big problem. When Chino came back home and saw the news, he heard in the news that Salazar was killed, that made Chino worried. For example, “The report said Salazar’s body was found in the East River. He had been a reporter for El Diario/La Prensa working on an investigation of a drug lord in East Harlem...In addition to the gunshot wound, Salazar had suffered a serious bite to the shoulder.” This is shows that Salazar was killed by someone that he was interfering, which mentioned of a drug lord in east Harlem. Chino, now noticed who killed Salazar because it mentioned about a “serious bite” on his shoulder; it was Sapo! Sapo has a very big mouth, and Bodega must be the drug dealer that Salazar was searching for because Bodega had crazy cash with him, and he and Sapo smoke weed.

DeleteWhy do they keep on mentioning Alberto Sanchez? Why is he important?
ReplyDeleteAlberto Sanchez is a reporter who got killed and had serious bites on his shoulders. Bodega and Nazario would mention when they were at the Taino Towers. Chino was interested in what happened and saw on the news that he had bites on his shoulders along with gunshots as well and Chino has an idea who might have killed him. He said, “In addition to the gunshot wound, Salazar had suffered a serious bite to the shoulder. That’s when I know who had done it”(82). This shows that probably Bodega, Nazario, and Sapo might know who killed him or might be involved. Chino probably knows who have done it because he says at the end that he might have a clue of who done it.

DeleteWhat is Bodega going to ask Chino when Aunt Vera?
ReplyDeleteBodega and Chino meet up with each other at the museum because Bodega wants a favor from him. They talked about Aunt Vera and Bodega kept mentioning how she would leave her husband for Bodega because she never really liked him and when they were 17 years old, they were in love with each other but Aunt Vera was forced into marriage by her mother. Bodega doesn’t tell Chino what the favor is even though Bodega called Chino for the favor. It says, “ B’cause, Chino, I’m going t’ask you for somethin’ when Vera comes and I thought you should know me. Besides, I’m gonna marry her this time, and that means we’re gonna be related”(78). This shows that Bodega wants something important from Chino but doesn’t want to tell probably because he doesn’t want it to be on his head until Vera comes. Also, the tone of Bodega probably sounds calm which means that he might want something that is important and that can’t be messed up or the whole entire plan is ruined.
Make a guess at what it is he wants! Good context, though. 9/10
DeleteWhy Bodega is interested in Vera?
ReplyDeleteIn "Bodega Dream" by Enrique Quinoñez, it shows the way that bodega is interested in Vera. On the other hand, bodega also want to marry vera, but she's marry to a wealthy man. In the story Bodega say's, "I was telling her he was not a friend of the people right up to the night before the wedding. Do you know what she said? ... She said she loved me. She said that she didn't care if I didn't have any money."(79) This shows how Bodega is telling Chino that before Vera got marry, Vera told him that she Loved him, also she didn't care that if he didn't have any money. On the other hand, Vera mom's forced her to marry a wealthy guy. Finally Bodega was waiting so long for Vera, and the momemt that Chino tell Bodega that Vera was coming, Bodega say's that this time he was going to marry her.

DeleteWhy is Chino so worried about Alberto Salazars death?
ReplyDeleteIn "Bodega Dreams" Chino is very worried about Alberto Salazars death. Alberto Salazar was a guy that they killed. They stabbed him beat him up and strangely also bit him. Alberto was a lawayer. Chino was once in the Taino Towers snd heard Bodega and Nazario talking about a guy. Chino thinks that the guy that they were talking about was Alberto Salazar. Chino said "But I need to find out more, in case Alberto Salazar was the same guy I had heard Bodeaga and Nazario talk about the night at the Taino Towers." (82). This quote shows that Chino is worried. It shows that Chino is thinking that Bodega and Nazario probably had something to do with Albertos Salazars death. This worrieds him because of Sapo.Chino knows that Sapo would do anything for Bodega. He knows that Bodega is also the type of person that would send somebody to be killed.
Alberto was NOT a lawyer. 8/10
DeleteWhat was it that Bodega wanted?
ReplyDeleteBodega wanted Vera to come and chino made that happen. Bodega and Vera had this thing going on between them ever since they were 17 and Bodega has always been in love with her. Vera's parents forced her to marry some other wealthy guy , but she didnt want to because she was in love with bodega and she didnt care if bodega didnt have any money she loved him either way. "Sapo, mira tell bodega thanks. Tell him i have what he wants. " this shows that what bodega wanted was his girl back and since chino was married to veras niece he gave bodega a dream come true.

DeleteWhy does chino say yes to Bodegas plan?
ReplyDeleteIn "Bodega dreams" Chino goes along with Bodegas plan because of one reason. Chino wants to get a new space for his family to live in. He is about to get a child and his recent apartment isn't big enough for it. But the only way to get a new place is by discussing it with Bodega. So in order for Chino to get the new place he needs to say yes to Bodegas deal. "When you moving?" " I haven't talked it over with my wife yet, but soon" (p.71). So, this shows that Chino did say yes to Bodega and Bodega did give him a new place.

DeleteWho do you think killed salazar ?
ReplyDeleteI think sapo killed salazar because in the beginnning of the story sapo and chino would talk about how they fight and what they do when they fight and i remembered sapo bites when he fights. Also when they found salazars body they found a bite mark on his shoulder. So that gave me an idea that it was sapo who killed salazar. Also in "Bodega Dreams" it said "when they found a bite mark on salazars shoulder i knew exactly who it was" -Chino and this means that it was sapo because chino and sapo are best friends and the only person who knows sapo like that is chino so it had to be chino.

DeleteWhy does Bodega want so much information on Vera?
ReplyDeleteIn "Bodega Dreams" Bodega tells Chino to go out and find some information on Vera. Then Chino goes to Bodega and tells him the information on Vera. But then Chino wants to know why bodega is wanting all this information for. Then bodega says that he was in love with her ever since they were 17. Vera loved bodega too but her parents made her marry a rich man. She was upset because she loved bodega. So bodega wants to know about vera so he can marry her. " She said she loved me. She said that she didn't care if i didn't have any money. The problem was, she said, i didn't have any vision of how to get it" (p.79). So the reason was to find vera and to marry her and to fall in love again.

ReplyDeleteWho do you think might be a suspect of murdering Alberto Salazar? What makes you belive so?
ReplyDeleteIn "Bodega Dreams" by Ernesto Quinonez Bodega, Chino, Nene, and Nazario had came together at the Taino Towers where Bodega had a rented apartment on the top floor of the tower facing the East River. Chino and Sapo arrived and asked for Bodega. Nene informed them that Nazario and Bodega had been talking for a longtime in a seperate room. " I could hear Bodega and Nazario arguing and, sure enough, the name Alberto Salazar kept coming up"said Chino on page 72. Due to this quote there is a great chance that Bodega and Nazario killed Salazar. Salazar's name kept being brought up, not in a typical conversation but in an argument. Salazar could have been the cause to a so called distaster in one of Bodega and Nazario's deals/buisnesses. He could of even been a source that could of ruined Bodega and Nazario's reputation to the cummunity, and the only way they found out to that was by killing him. Therefore there is a great chance that Salazar got murdered by Bodega and/or Nazario.
Good context and explanation but I wished you'd posted an original question that no one had written about yet. 9/10
DeleteWhy did Veronica and Bodega not get married?
ReplyDeleteIn "Bodega Dreams" by Ernesto Quinonez, Willie Bodega stated that he loved Veronica (Blanca's aunt). through out the Young Lords time period bodega and veronica were teenager and according to Bodega they were inlove. Bodega had wanted to marry Veronica but her mom forced her to marry rich Cuban man; forcing to leave what Bodega and her had. She was scared to marry the man not due to Bodega but because she didn't love him." ...she was a little scared, but it wasn’t because I was there, it was cuz she was marrying some guy she didn’t love.” Vera married a man because she was forced to by her mother since her mom saw that Bodega didn't have money. If it would have been up to vera it is belived that her and Bodega would have been a married couple.
Try and come up with a more original question. 8/10
DeleteWho do you think killed Alberto Salazar?
ReplyDeleteIn "Bodega Dreams" the round talked about a man named Alberto Salazar being murdered, but did not say who murdered this man. I think that there is a lot of evidence in the book that could help infer or prove that it was either Sapo that killed Salazar or Bodega and Nazario had something to do with the murder. Nazario wanted to talk to Sapo privately about something without letting Chino hear. "Sapo,' Nazario said, walking past me but stopping a moment to pat my shoulder on the way as if to say, good job, 'Sapo, we have to talk". This is important because Nazario may have wanted to talk to Sapo about doing something to do to Alberto Salazar. Another piece of evidence is "I could hear Bodega and Nazario in the other room arguing and, sure enough, the name Alberto Salazar kept coming up." This also shows that it may have been Sapo or Bodega and Nazario that had something to do with the murder because they kept on talking about it and bringing up his name.

ReplyDeleteWhy does Bodega get mad when Chino brings up Veras Husband?
ReplyDeleteIn the story Bodega gets aggravated when Chino brings up Veras husband. Bodega is deeply in love with Vera and he can't accept the fact that she is with someone else. He truly believes that Vera is in love with him and that she will marry him when shes in New York. Bodega gets mad when Chino brings up her husband because Vera wanted to be with him and not the man she is with now. In the book Bodega states, "Of course she'll leave that pendejo. She never wanted to marry him in the first place. it was her fucken mother who pushed her." Bodegas words in this part of the book show us that Vera really loved him too when they were younger. He feels like that love is still their. He believes that the only reason she didn't marry him was because her mother forced her to marry the other guy for the money. Bodega truly hates Veras husband because he thinks Vera should be his.
A way to take this question deeper is to consider whether we, as the reader, can trust Bodega's assertions that Vera does love him. We don't have any evidence yet about Vera's true feelings. 9/10
DeleteWhy does Bodega wants to marry Vera this time?
ReplyDeleteIn "Bodega dreams" Bodega tells Chino why he wants Vera to come back to new york. When Bodega was a young lords he had fall in love with Vera. Vera was in love with Bodega too but she was getting marry with a rich cuba. As it said “she said she loved me. She said that she didn’t care if I didn’t have any money. The problem was, she said, I didn’t have any vision of how to get it”. This led to Vera getting marry with the cuba men. Now Bodega has a vision of how to get it and now he feels he can marry her now.
This is interesting analytical question, but you don't answer it directly. It would be great if you could focus on what makes this the particular time that Bodega wants to marry her. 7.5/10
DeleteWho ran East Harlem?
ReplyDeleteWhen Bodega wasn’t running East Harlem and the Italians was the one that ran East Harlem. The boss was who ran East Harlem was indicted on charges of racketeering. The boss got sentenced for seventy- five years. The Italians was ran scar and left East Harlem. This left a power struggle East Harlem between this Bodega came on top. As it said “and with the big white shark outtada way, you had all these little guppies jock in’ for power. And Bodega won ?”. This led to Bodega trying to rebuild East Harlem by buying condemned build. Bodega wants to take care of the community because if anything happens to Bodega the community would take care of him.

DeleteWhy does Bodega still want to marry Vera?
ReplyDeleteIn "Bodega Dreams" by Ernesto Quinonez, Willie Bodega fell in love with Chino's future aunt-in-law when he was in his late teens. Vera, his true love, ends up marrying some other man and moving to Florida to live a wealthy life. Bodega never got over Vera and wants her back now that he can provide the life she wants for her. Bodega says,"She said she didn't care that I didn't have money, what bothered her was that I had no vision of how to get it." This shows Bodega's fight for Vera is a sign of his major success and who in their right mind doesn't want their success gratified?
You could further develop this response by delving into Bodega's character. What is it about his character that causes him to never get over Vera? 8/10
DeleteWhy did Bodega really want to be successful?
ReplyDeleteIn chapter 9 of "Bodega Dreams" by Ernesto Quinonez, Bodega was motivated to be successful because of love. After Sapo dropped Chino off at the museum, Chino met with Bodega and started talking about Vera. Chino was confused as to why he was there in the first place because he already told Bodega when and where Vera would be when she came back to town, so he asked Bodega. Bodega told him his plan on asking Vera to marry him and that he will ask him a favor at the moment. Chino was surprised and reminded Bodega that Vera was married already, but Bodega didn't care. He said, "She said she loved... The problem was, she said, I didn't have any vision of how to get it(money). So I left thinking, shit, that bitch don't deserve me... But a couple hours later, Chino, I was in tears and not that much mattered."(79). This quote demonstartes that Bodega was truly motivated to become successful just for Vera. Bodega found out that nothing else really mattered except for the love of his life, Vera, being with him. This also shows how Bodega and Vera were truly in love because he was so confident that Vera would leave her current husband for him. The only thing that stopped that from happening was having no plan on how to get money. So Bodega made plans, really big plans starting with the vision of taking over the whole neighborhood, which he is putting in action, all just for getting back the girl of his dreams and being able to marry her.
Good context about what is happening at this point in the book. 10/10
DeleteWhat does Bodega want?
ReplyDeleteWhat Bodega wants from Chino is Vera. Vera is Willie Bodega's love and from back in the day. Vera also loved Bodega but was forced to by her parents to marry a rich man. Before she got married she had told Bodega that she loved him to. In the story Bodega says "Sapo, mira tell bodega thanks. Tell him i have what he wants. " This shows that Chino knows what Bodega want and shows that Chino can manipulate it so Chino could get something in return.
This idea was developed in Book One Round 6. How is this related to this chapter? Why is your quote significant? Needs further development. 6/10

In the story " I could hear Bodega and Nazario arguing and, sure enough, the name Alberto Salazar kept coming up". This quote shows there is a great chance that Bodega and Nazario killed Salazar. DeleteWho do you think killed Salazar?
ReplyDeleteIn the book Bodega Dreams by Ernesto Quinonez, Chino is has just came back from talking with Bodega in El Museo. Chino and Bodega were speaking about Vera. When Chino gets home and watches the news, he sees that a Salazar was killed and saw that he was bit. Chino is starting to see that Sapo is getting into real problems. On page 82 it says, "Salazar had suffered a serious bite to the shoulder. Thats when i knew who had killed him." This quote shows how Chino is starting to see how Sapo cannot control himself and is getting in to serious trouble. Another quote can be found when it says on chapter 3," And that's when Sapo jumped him from behind. Sapo crawled on Blessington as if Blessington were going to give him a piggyback ride. Before Blessington could shake Sapo free, Sapo dug his teeth into the base of the teacher's neck. Blessington screamed; the blood spurted out, running down his back and staining his white shirt collar crimson." This also shows how Sapo had bit his teacher in the same location where Salazar was bit.

DeleteWhy did negra stab Victor?
ReplyDeleteIn the book Bodega Dreams by Ernesto Quinonez, Negra and Victor, a very happy couple, get in to an argument which leads to someone getting hurt emotionally and physically. Negra feels like Victor is cheating on her. She discovered movie tickets in his pockets in which he took another girl. On page 57 it says, "Thass right, you didnt see this with Mike or Nando or with me because this is a movie you took another girl with". This quote shows how Negra attacked Victor because she was feeling heartbroken due to the fact that she felt like she was being played.

DeleteWho killed alberto salazar?
ReplyDeleteI think that sapo killed Alberto Salazar. I think this because of the details that they give about the murder. they say that Alberto has a serous bite wound and a bullet through his body. As it states in round one of the book, "when im in a fight, 'sapo would spit', whass close to my mouth is mine by right and my teeth ain't no fucken pawn shop." This evidence clearly supports that sapo killed Alberto Salazar because sapo said that when he is in a fight he bites anything that is near his mouth. this connect to the murder because Alberto sufferd a serious bite wound to the shoulder which shows that sapo killed him because they were fighting and his shoulder was close to his mouth. This evidence clearly supports that Alberto Salazar was killed by Sapo.
I think Sapo killed Alberto Salazar because Sapo had a reputation for biting.Alberto Salazar is thus guy who is trying to ruin bodega dreams and bodega wanted to get rid of him.I think it was Sapo because at the end of chapter 8 it says ''Salazar had suffered a serious bite to the shoulder'' and at the beginning of chapter 1 its says '' Sapo was always Sapo, and no one messed with him because he had a reputation for biting. This evidence is a proof because the quote shows how does chino know who killed Salazar wich is Sapo from his reputation of biting. chino knew it was him because he was the only one who Chino knew that did that.
ReplyDeleteBe specific about how he is trying to ruin Bodega's dreams. Late. 6/10
