Will Chino change his mind on Willie’s offer to work with him?
ReplyDeleteIn Bodega Dreams, By Ernesto Quinoñez, Chino seems that he’s thinking a lot of what Willie said, maybe he will accept his offer because Chino needs more space for Blanca and the baby to live better. From what Chino remembered what Willie said about the housing and making East Harlem better, he’s thinking through more about he said, and since Chino and Blanca live in a very small place and have tuition debt to pay for their college, it was quite hard to live, especially for the baby. For example, “My mind was really on Bodega and what he said earlier that night. About Vera and what Bodega really wanted from me...Then there was a baby on the way and we needed more space.” (47) This shows that Chino has a lot in mind that he has so many responsibilities to take care of, and wanting something necessary to live better. Now with maybe with the help of Willie to offer him an apartment to his buildings will make him live better, but maybe some consequence because Willie helps the community but the community has to help him back. With that Chino has no other choice.
Good job including sufficient context about the story before your quotes! 9/10
DeleteWhat do you think chino should say about what bodega is offering him?
ReplyDeleteIn Bodega Dreams, by Ernesto Quinonez, I think he is gonna say yes because he is smacked. He also need to find a better place to live for blanca and the baby.I think bodega made him agree when he convinced him about the housing and how he is trying to change the neighborhood. For example,"my joint started to kick in"(37) also, In page (47) where he say"then there was a baby on the way and we needed more space." this shows that he is considering bodega's propersition and is thinking of saying yes.
Check spelling and grammar before submitting. Avoid slang like "smacked" in academic responses. Give more context about the offer -- why Bodega calls him, why he doesn't want to accept at first etc. Explain how each quote proves your answer. 7/10
DeleteWill Chino change his mind, and taje Bodega's offer?
ReplyDeleteI think that Chino might change his mind and take Bodega's offer because he was starting to think and analyze what Bodega was saying to him. A piece of evidence is "I understood more clearly what sapo had told me earlier. Sapo believe in Bodega because he knew other reasons why Bodega was renovating the neighborhood. I started to believe a bit myself." This shows that Chino might change his mind because he is actually thinking it over and trying to see Bodega's vision from Sapo's point of view and is seeing things differently.

DeleteWhy is Sapo trying to Make Chino feel bad?
ReplyDeleteIn the story Chino puts down Bodegas offer and Sapo gets mad and tries to put Chino down. The main reason he does this is because he already spoke to Bodega about Chino for a while in order for Bodega to finally make up his mind and hire Chino. In the book Sapo says, "Bodega's been looking for a guy to work with Nazario for some time. And I thought of you. You know, I built yous up to Bodega." This quote shows us that Sapos been talking to Bodega about how good Chino would be for the job and really put in time for Chino. It took him a while but he didn't give up until finally convincing Bodega. The fact that Chino put down the offer reflected really bad on Sapo because Sapo let Bodega down. Sapo is not going to count on Chino for a lot of things anymore like he did before this happened. He probably even lost respect for Chino Too.
Good response. You could take it further by really analyzing the bond between Chino and Sapo. What do they mean to eachother and why. 9/10
DeleteWhy does Chino start to reconsider Bodega's offer?
ReplyDeleteIn the end of chapter 5, Chino starts to reconsider Bodega's offer because of his financial situation. After Chino comes back home high, he lays down next to Blanca on the bed. While Blanca talks about church, Chino is in another world thinking about Bodega's offer. "In the dark I looked around our tiny bedroom... the rent was high for this matchbox... we were paying for all our studies at full tuition out of own pockets. Then there was a baby on the way and we needed more space... It was basic street politics: you want something from me then you better have something I need." (Quiñonez 47). This quote demonstrates how Chino really started to see a benefit coming from Bodega's offer. Chino had rent to pay, tuition to pay, a baby on the way, and in need of a bigger space. He needed all of this and yet didn't have a strong income for any of it. Seeing that Bodega really wanted and needed him to be apart of his plan, Chino is thinking that an apartment in one of Bodega's buildings is a simple, smart trade.

DeleteANDRES PAULINO:
ReplyDelete1. Why did Bodega fixed the building?
In "Bodega Dreams" Willie Bodega had condemned buildings. He had the community helping him out on renovating the buildings. In the long run Bodega wants to take care of the community. Willie Bodega said that " B'cause, like I told you, Chino, if you take care of the community, the community will take care of you." This resulted to Bodega buying more building for the community. Bodega wants to take care community because if any thing happen to Bodega the community would protests to get him out.
2. Why did Chino pass on the offer?
In "Bodega Dreams" willie Bodega offer Chino a job with Nazario. This job was to help Nazario to get more building. Chino response to this offer by saying " look, bro," I said," I think I'll pass on the Nazario thing." This resulted to a argument with Sapo about Bodega vision for the community. This led to the talk about the vision of Bodega. How Bodega wants the same spark back then with the Hispanic protests for his community. This talk led to Chino thing about the job offer.
Post #1: Good analysis of Bodega's character and plan. You could include a little more context/background information in the future 8/10
DeletePost #2: This post is less focused than the first. Instead of answering your question about why Chino doesn't accept the offer, you summarize what happened in the chapter. Focus on answering the question well, by giving evidence and explaining how it supports your answer to the question. 7/10
Why chino tells a flashback about sapo?
ReplyDeleteIn "Bodega Dream" by Enrique Quinoñez, shows how Chino have a flashback when Sapo and him wrre on sixth grade. The kinds of feelings that chino feels about Sapo, when they were on sixth grade. In the story chino says, "When Sapo and I were in the sixth grade we would play hoocky by going there to play hide and seek, hang out."(43) This shows how Chino uses flashback to show the kind of things Sapo and him used to do in the museum.
Proofread for spelling/grammar errors. These cause you to loose points! Explain more context -- what kinds of feelings did Chino have for Sapo in 6th grade? Why is this memory important? Missing context and explanation of quote. 6.5/10

ReplyDeleteWhy does Chino turn down Bodega's offer?
Chino turns down Bodega's offer for the sake of Blanca and his new baby on the way. Even though he knew it was for a good cause, chino still had to put his family first."...but I had Blanca and the baby to think about and I wasn't about to throw that away." This shows how Chino cared for Blanca dreadfully and his future as a family with her.
Why does Chino reconsider Bodega's offer?
Chino reconsiders Bodega's offer for the living conditions he is in living in the project's apartment. Since he has a new baby coming he wanted the baby to have his/her room and not sleep next to the kitchen like they were. "There was a baby on the way and we needed more space...Bodega wanted something from me so I would ask something in return . It was basic, simple street politics:you want something from me then you better have something I need." This shows how Chino changed his mind and looked at the brighter side at helping Bodega out; he knew Bodega would give him anything as long as he help him out.
Post #1: You need to include more context about the offer and Bodega to fully explain why turning down the offer is good for Blanca and Chino's family. 7/10
DeletePost #2: Also needs more context about the offer and Bodega and how his family's needs outweigh the risks of accepting the offer. 8/10
Who is Nazario?
ReplyDeleteIn Bodega Dreams by Ernesto Quinonez, Nazario plays a important role. Nazario is Bodegas right man hand. "went around spreading favors for Bodega."(page.70) This quote shows how Nazario represents Bodega in the neighborhood. Nazario believes in the Dream of making the neighborhood a better place. Unlike chino he actually does believe what Bodega is aiming for.
Why is Vera so important to Bodega?
Bodega is a man with a lot of money who can do anything he wants. The only thing missing is the love of his life, Vera. Although the last time he saw her was when he was 17 his love for her is still powerful. " I'm gonna marry her this time."(page.78) This quote demonstrates how Bodega will not give up for Vera and since his going to have a second chance to do things right this time and marry the love of his life regardlessly how long is been without seeing her. Bodega knows that money is not what Vera cares about and that's one of the things that made him fall inlove with her, and now that he has money he can give her the successful life. The fact that she has a husband will not stop him from showing up to his love. " She said she loved me. She said that she didn't care if I didn't have any money."(Page.79) Now this was said when they were young, Vera's mind might have changed is been a while but only time will tell. People change for love.
