ReplyDeleteIn the story "Bodega Dreams" by Enrique Quiñonez is about how a guy named Willy Bodega, that wants to take over the whole neighborhood. Through the story bodega used a guy name Nazzario and his a lawyer and his getting many tenement apartment in his neighborhood. In the story bodega say's, "with Nazzario I intend to own this neighborhood and make El Bario my sandbox." This means that he's getting condermned building and hiring people from the community to renovate them so that the community can live there for reasonable rent.
Proofread for spelling/grammar errors. These cause you to loose points! Explain how your quote proves the answer to your question -- your explanation is not directly related to the quote. 7/10
DeleteWhy doesn't Chino want to work with Willie Bodega? What changed his mind?
ReplyDeleteIn Bodega Dreams, by Ernesto Quinoñez, Chino didn't want the Willie's offer to work with him because he change his mind about thinking in Blanca. Willie wanted Chino's help to maintain the project buildings to bring more people in and letting the community help him in order to help him back. But Chino was thinking about Blanca and the baby that is getting born, which was first than helping out Willie, so he denied. For example, “Part of me really wanted to be there, to be part of it. But I had Blanca and the baby to think about and I wasn’t about to throw that away.” This shows that Chino has responsibilities for his new family, and for the love he has with Blanca he doesn’t mess it up and just want to do things right to not get into trouble and especially for the new born baby, he’s lived a good life with Blanca.
Proofread for spelling/grammar errors. These cause you to loose points! Good job choosing a strong quote to support your answer. Your context is a little confusing due to some typos/confusing wording. You don't answer the second question about Chino changing his mind. 7/10
DeleteWhat does chino think of bodega? Does he like him?
ReplyDeleteIn Bodega Dream, by Ernesto Quinoñez, Chino believes that Bodega had a vision and was good at chasing it as well as being successful at it, but that he may think too highly of himself at times. On page 31 Chino says, "He had some how brought that hope to my time.... But Bodega didn't just believe it, he actually practicing it. He learned from the past and knew that change couldn't just come free love, peace, and brotherhood. Extreme measures would have to be taken, and all you could hope for was that the good could out weigh the bad." This quote demonstrates that Chino admired the fact that Bodega set goals and went after them. Although he saw Bodega's ambition as an admiring factor he also believe that Bodega thought too highly of himself. "Who did he think he was Lyndon Johnson?" By Chino saying this he meant to show that Bodega thought he was someone big and famous but in a sarcastic manner. Despite the fact that Chino adored Bodegas dream chasing habits he still convinced that Bodega thought too much of himself.
Good complex topic sentence that shows the nuanced first impression Chino has of Bodega! Make sure you add context in your own words before jumping straight to the quote. Overall, though, strong, thoughtful post. 10/10
DeleteWhy does Sapo leave Chino by himself?
ReplyDeleteIn Bodega Dreams, by Ernesto Quinonez, Sapo left Chino by himself because he didn't like how he turned down Bodega's offer. Sapo talks about how a guy like Chino can help out in Bodega's dream because Chino is someone who is smart and knows the neighborhood well. "Bodega's been looking for a guy to work with Nazario for some time. I told him 'Nah, Chino is cool. You'll like him. He's a cool guy and smart. He goes to Huntah"(40). This shows that Sapo believed that Chino would have accepted an offer that Bodega put but instead, Chino didn't find no interest or even had the thought to take time and think about the offer. - Sergio Tavarez
Give more context about the relationship between Sapo and Chino in order to provide a good response to this question. WHY doesn't he like how he turned down the offer? The answer goes back to their history as friends. 7.5/10
DeleteWhy can we say that Chino is a good husband to Blanca?
ReplyDeleteIn Bodega Dreams by Ernesto Quinoñez , Chino is a good Husband to Blanca because he cares and cherishes her feelings as well as not wanting to disappoint her by his actions. " I wanted her to know I loved making love to her and that her body sill excited me" said Chino. By chino saying this it showed that he cared about what Blanca felt emotionally even while she was pregnant, because many women while being pregnant begin to lose confidence due to their gain of weight and Chino is trying his best to let her know that she is still beautiful. Chino also dislikes disappointing Blanca; "That night, I decided I'd better walk around for a while because I couldn't go home to Blanca high." This shows that Chino didn't want to go home to Blanca high because he didn't want to disappoint her by doing something that is illegal. Chino cares about Blanca's feelings and opinions (judgements) therefore he is a good husband.
You could improve this post by anticipating arguments against your own and refuting them. For example, why doesn't Chino walking around because he's high show how he is a bad husband for hiding the truth from Blanca? 8/10
DeleteWhy is Blancas aunt Vera still in Chinos head?
ReplyDeleteIn Bodega Dreams by Ernesto Quinoñez , Chino has been thinking a lot about Blancas aunt Vera because he really wants to find out her connection to Bodega. " Tell me more about Vera and the street activest." Chino asked Blanca. This piece of evidence shows that Chino hasen't taken Blancas aunt Vera out of his mind because of Bodega. Chink wants to see what was the relationship between Vera and Bodega. Chino also noticing that Bodega also wants him to get him information about Vera.
Answer the question more completely by taking it a step further -- why does he care about her connection to Bodega? He wants to get something out of the situation and you don't give the reader enough context from the story to explain what it is. 7.5/10
DeleteWhy did Sapo really want Chino to work for Bodrga?
ReplyDeleteIn Bodega Dreams by Ernesto Quinoñez , Sapo wants Chino to work for Bodega so that Sapo doesn't look bad in front of Bodega." You get all fucked up, laugh in his face, and dont take the job." Sapo told Chino. This piece of evidence shows that Sapo was disappointed on how Chino reacted towards Bodega. Sapo felt like it was his fault because he was the one that told Bodega that Chino would have helped him.
The point you make in your last sentence is an important one. Emphasize it more by including more context from the story and bringing it up before and after your quote. Explain how the relationship between Chino and Sapo is related to this part of the story. 7.5/10
DeleteWill Chino consider taking Bodega's offer? Why does Chino change his mind?
ReplyDeleteIn Bodega's Dreams by Ernesto Quinonez, Chino was considering weather he should take Bodega's offer. This is good because he took a second to take a chance to take the offer. " The rent was high for this matchbox and Blanca and I'd our tuition raised last semester because of the new governer... It was not a good way to start a professional career, in debt... Then there was a baby on the way and we needed more space. And a way to save some money, too. Sitting there in the dark, I saw some daylight. Bodega wanted something from me, so I would ask something in return. It was basic, simple street politics: you want something from me then you better have something I need"(47). This shows that Chino likes what Bodega is doing because he can help the neighborhood and even Chino himself because Chino is in a situation where it's getting a little crazy because he has a baby coming and has to pay for his tuition and if the rent is high, then it can really affect his future.
Proofread for errors in spelling/grammar. You misspelled the title. You are also missing context about background info of what is going on in the book -- what is the "offer" you're talking about? Also, your quote is too long. Quotes should only be 2 - 3 sentences max and contain more explanation of how they show your answer to the question, which is not a very clear topic sentence. 6.5/10
DeleteWhy did Sapo get upset at Chino, and will sapo forgive chino?
ReplyDeleteSapo got upset at chino because sapo was trying to make himself look good i front of a big boss with the help of chino and chino did not help at all. A piece of evidence is "You get all fucked up, laugh in his face, and don't take yhe job. Do you know how that", Sapo said, jabbing a finger in his chest, "reflects on me?"
This is important because it shows that sapo was really relying on chino to help him look good and thought that he would have his back for this one since they are panas (close friends), but instead chino was not helpful at all and made sapo look bad. At first i did not think that sapo was going to forgive chino because the author gave sapo a tone that was not really heard from him before, he sounded really disappointed and upset, but then i continued to read and saw he forgave chino.
Check for errors in spelling/grammar/capitalization/punctuation. Missing context before the quote -- explain what is going on in the story between Chino and Bodega and the relationship between Chino and Sapo. Explain why Chino's behavior makes Sapo look bad. 7/10
DeleteWhy is it that Chino keeps hesitating on saying yes to Willie even though he doesn't have to do anything illegal?
ReplyDeleteChino keeps hesitating because at the end of the day he knows Willie is planning to do something illegal. "And bodega might talk all this shit about helping the community and shit like that but what it all comes downs to is making money". This shows that chino knows that Willie will end up doing something they shouldn't do. This is important because Chino said no because he knows its bad news. Also if he does it and gets caught then that will affect his relationship with Blanca.
Geovanni Urias
Take your posts a step further by explaining more. This is an interesting, analytical question -- good job coming up with it. However, you can still add more to your explanation, such as why Blanca and Chino's relationship would be effected etc. 7.5/10
DeleteDoes Chino have second thoughts on bodegas plan?
ReplyDeleteYes i do feel like Chino is having second thoughts. But i'm sure that he's only doing it because he needs something from bodega first. it says " Sitting in the dark i saw some daylight. Bodega wanted something from me, so i would ask for something in return". This shows that Chino has seconds thoughts because he actually referring back to what bodega was telling him. Also i think chino will ask for his thing first. Then after he gets it then he'll see about bodegas wish.
Errors in spelling/punctuation/capitalization. You need to give more context and explain your thinking more clearly. For example, "referring back to what Bodega was telling him," you should explain what you are talking about specifically. What is the "thing" Chino is going to ask for? This post is missing key information. 6.5/10
DeleteWhy is Bodega in Chinos mind?
ReplyDelete"My mind was really on Bodega and what he said earlier about Vera and what Bodega really wanted from me." Bodega was still in Chinos mind because he was thinking of the benefits he is gonna get if he had helped Bodega.
You are missing a topic sentence, context and an adequate explanation of your evidence. VERY UNDERDEVELOPED 5/10
DeleteWhy does Sapo speak so highly of Bodega?
ReplyDeleteIn chapter 4, Sapo speaks highly of Bodega because of their past. After Chino turned down Bodega's offer, Chino and Sapo had a talk outside. Sapo tries to explain how Bodega was different but Chino wasn't having it. He says, "Look, bro , all I know is when no one would gimme a job, Bodega did... But I don't want to be some manager of a few crack houses. I wanna be part of history."(Quiñonez 41). This quote shows that Sapo has a high level of respect for Bodega because of what was done for him. Bodega gave him a job when he couldn't find anywhere else to work. This quote also shows that Sapo truly believes on the future that Bodega claims he would bring to the neighborhood.
Another thorough, well-written blog post. Good work! 9/10
DeleteWhy does Chino turn Bodegas offer down?
ReplyDeleteWell, Chino turn Bodegas offer down because Chino has too much to loose at this point in his life. He has a wife, a kid that is coming on its way, and he has to ficus on his studies since he is in Hunter college. He says "part of me really wanted to be there, to be part of it. But i had Blanca and the baby to think about and i wasn't about to throw that away"(Bodega Dreams 39). This show that Chino really cares about his family and does not want to be involved in all of this

ReplyDeleteWhy does Chino love Sapo so much?
ReplyDeleteIn Bodega Dreams the charter Sapo is a very violent man who makes very poor decisions this is shown when Chino explains how he got his name."Sapo was always Sapo, and no one messed with him because he had a reputation for biting." This shows Sapo was a fighter because he had a reputation for biting. This shows Sapo was trouble because he had a bad reputation for biting in fights. But Chino would always see through Sapo's trouble anyways. He loved him for who he was no matter what he did in his past." I loved Sapo. I loved sapo because he loved himself. And I wanted to be able to do that , to rely on myself for my own happiness." Chino loved Sapo because looked up to him and learned from his mistake. He wanted to be able to think like him to only need himself. Also Sapo always found a way to be there for Chino at his worst times.
Why did white teachers and Hispanics not get along?
ReplyDeleteIn "Bodega Dream" Hispanics and white teachers never get along white teacher would treat Hispanics as if they're a waste of time so Hispanics would disrespect white teachers."To the white teachers we were all going to end up delinquents. I get paid whether you learn or not." They would tell us. So we paid figured, hey I ain't stealing food from your kid's, mouth why should I do my work?" Teachers wouldn't motivate students so they didn't care about their education and the importance's of learning. So students would give teachers a hard time in class and learn nothing.
Why isn't Chino Listening to Blanca?
ReplyDeleteChino does not listen to Blanca because he admires Sapo.He wanted to be like Sapo because he didn't really care what others say. Chino and Blanca had a fight because Blanca does not chino to hang out with Sapo because she knew he is bad news.Chino says '' I loved Sapo because he loved himself And I wanted to be able to do that, to rely on myself for my own happiness''. This evidence is a proof because the quote shows why he loved and admires Sapo. Sapo says '' fuck that shit I love myself'' showing that he doesnt care about what they say about him and chino wants to be able to do the same thing. I think thats maybe the reason that he does not listen to Blanca.
