What does Vera's change tell about her character? Vera's change tells us about her character is she went looking for a better life leaving the love of her life behind. After 20 years with out seeing him finally reconnecting old feelings start to merge again with her and Wille Bodega."Vera swallowed hard then drew her self up to her full height and regained her composure."(pg#120) This quote is indicating that Veras old feelings come back for Wille and you could tell because of the way she reacts when she sees him.
In the book Bodega dreams round 4 book two, Bodega finally gets to meet Vera again after many years. Both are enjoying themselves by getting drunk and acting funny. While they were together, Vera removed her ring that she had gotten from her husband. It says in round 4, "I dont want it. I never did. She said, her eyes still on Bodega. Take it!" I think she didnt want the ring because she is over with her husband and she wants Izzy back. The ring might symbolize how she is done with the past and is thinking about the future in miami between Bodega and her.
(LEWIS SEWELL) The reason Vera is materialistic is because she cares what others think about her. The people in this scene are Vera and chino. The people that are going to talk is Vera and chino and in this scene chino is going to meet Vera."she spoke as if she had spent her formative years in some boarding school" "actually,Vera had barely graduated from Norman high school" (bd pg 119). These quotes shows that she tries to look smart but but she barely passed high school this shows that she tries to make people think she smart because she care about what others think about her.
The author characterizes her as someone who wants to be someone else. Vera is Blanca's aunt and Willie Bodega Wants to meet her again because he still has feelings for her. Vera used to be poor but she wants to hide her past and be seen as a rich girl. The quote that says ''with her light-skin ,semi-blonde hair, pale seagull , blue eyes she could easily pass herself off as something else than a woman born and raised in East Harlem'' shows that she was trying to be like some white rich girl in front of her friends. The evidence is a proof because the quote shows how the author characterizes Blanca , the author also says '' Vera seemed born to money , her gestures , her voice , her social graces had been so well studied and cultivated that she could have fooled anyone who wasn't familiar with her past''. The author is showing that she looked like someone else compared to how she used to be.
Did Chino thought that bringing Vera to Bodega would leave off his problems?
Chino thought he was going to just his part of the bargain and leave off Bodega's side but, it didn’t seem like he’s done his bargain because Bodega wants more help and Chino can’t leave. Once Vera came to East Harlem and met with Bodega they both started to get drunk when Chino left Bodega with Vera, they quickly knocked on Chino’s door and didn’t left Chino sleep. For example, “I went inside my building and took the elevator up. When I got to my apartment, I took off my suit and fell asleep, I don’t know when it happened, how long I was out, but a loud knock interrupted my sleep..I went to open the door. ‘Happy New Year, Julio!’ Vera yelled, all silly and sloppy. There was a champagne bottle...’Oh, lets’ go to central park, Izzy. I miss Central Park. You will join us, won’t you, Julio?’, ‘Well I have a class later tonight and was hoping to get some sleep-’, ‘Nah you coming with us’ Bodega interrupted…”I guess things went well”, I muttered to myself”. Chino doesn’t seem to have left the bargain, Bodega still wants more from him, and with Vera by his side everything would start being a mess. Bodega would probably do more for Vera than doing his dream of making East Harlem a better place than other neighborhood. With Vera and Bodega together they won’t stop asking favors to Chino because Bodega owns him big time for bringing Vera to East Harlem, and there’s going to be more problems in East Harlem with Vera here.
Do you think that Vera and Bodega will keep that happy relationship?
I think that Bodega and Vera have a good chance at maintaining that good happy relationship. In the day that Vera saw Bodega after such a long time she looked as if she saw an angel. Vera also agreed to spend time with Bodega and catch up on both of their lives. Bodega had Vera following him everywhere that shows that Vera still has feelings for Bodega. A piece of evidence is, "Yes, yes lets go around the city' Bodega quickly agreed, and to my surprise, Vera just followed him." This shows that Bodega and Vera have a good chance at having a strong relationship because Vera was not hesitating when Bodega wanted to take her somewhere she just followed along.
In "Bodega Dreams" bodega and vera met and started talking like the old days. Then vera and bodega got drunk and was still talking. Throughout all this Chino is there still trying to be bodegas wing man. While they were walking vera says that she doesnt want her ring anymore, that she never even wanted. So she gives it to chino. Chino was thinking to give it to blanca. So chino leaves them two together while he goes home and gives the ring to blanca. He was so excited to give it to blanca that when he showed it to her she was freaking out. She kept telling him that she doesnt want it. To he needs to give it back to her or the person that bought it."If my aunt doesnt want the ring, then the right thing to do is to give it back to the man who bought it for her". "Why?" "Because its his ring". This shows that blanca didnt want the ring that chino wanted to give her. Because it wasnt theirs.
What does chino first think about after the fire accident?
After blanca was rejecting the ring that chino wanted to give her, they got into an argument about how blanca doesnt appreciate things. So, the next day, they went to church and when they came back they saw that everyone that lived in the building was in the lobby. They ask what had happened and they said that there was a fire. So chino and blanca go to their apartment and check things out. The first thing chino thought about was the ring and also sapo's stuff. But when chino tries to find the ring, it wasnt in the last place he had left it. But then he searches for it and finds it on the floor." I had left the ring on top of the bureau"(Could not have copied down the whole quote). So this shows how important that ring was. Also it showed that, that was the only thing he cared about that could have been damaged in the fire.
